Phantasmagoria

the future of history

About Phantasmagoria

Phantasmagoria is site-responsive, immersive, promenade theatre, using projection, soundscape, and kinetic sculpture, with a community component, to tell true histories, where they happened, in the words of those who witnessed.

The new technologies of projection-mapping and augmented reality enhance the oldest of art forms; true tales of the ancestors. The team works with archives, architecture, local historians, and first nations consultants, to create beautiful and haunting experiences of history. Phantasmagoria  illuminates the past and brings the long-dead to life.

Fremantle’s Dark Corners - West End Edition

True historical drama, romance, and horror, is rendered in light on a round house, on a rocky cliff, above a turbulent ocean. Fremantle’s West End is one of the world’s best preserved 19th century port towns, full of dark corners, grand facades, and hidden stories. Walk its streets with us, as our lanterns reveal what lies beneath. Hear the dead speak for themselves, through letters, diaries, comments to the press, and testimonies in court. See the past projected onto the present. Phantasmagoria is a vivid style of storytelling, from the dark heart of Ross Vegas and Generosity Arts, where the latest technologies tell the oldest of tales. This is the future of history.

Dark Corners is soon to be rebranded as Phantasmagoria.

Fremantle’s rendition of Phantasmagoria is proudly supported by the City of Fremantle as part of the Fremantle Heritage Festival 2025. Delivered by the team who brought you Dark Corners in York (2024), Cockburn (2023), Fremantle (2023), Mandurah (2022) and Kwinana (2021). This tour is currently under development and will debut in May.

Generosity Arts is also developing renditions of Phantasmagoria for Cossack (July 2025), York (September 2025), and Manjimup (2026).
